Kuala Lumpur, 14 April 2021 – Homegrown e-wallet Boost has once again turned on its in-app contactless Zakat Fitrah payments for six states as Malaysia prepares to observe a second Ramadan during the pandemic. With the feature, Muslims can fulfil tithe payment obligations safely and conveniently during the holy month. This is in conjunction with Boost’s Bersama Berkongsi Berkat Ramadan campaign, where the e-wallet is bringing back features into the app that are essential for Muslims observing the fasting month such as the in-app ‘Prayer Time’ tile.

From now to 12 May, Boost users can pay for their Zakat Fitrah in these states, without needing to physically go to a Zakat collection center:

  1. Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS)
  2. Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK)
  3. Majlis Ugama Islam & Adat Resam Melayu Pahang (MUIP)
  4. Majlis Ugama Islam Sabah (MUIS)
  5. Perbadanan Baitulmal Negeri Sembilan (PBMaINS)
  6. Pusat Pungutan Zakat- Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (PPZ-MAIWP)

Mohd Khairil Abdullah, CEO of Boost said, “As we have all embraced and familiarised with the ‘now normal’, more people are open to contactless and online experiences. Since Ramadan Bazaars and terawih prayers at mosques are allowed at a limited capacity this year, we want to ensure the wellbeing of Malaysians are still in check with value-added contactless solutions. Hence, we are re-introducing key offerings and increasing collaborations with various partners as part of a collective effort to enable  Muslims to conveniently practice their religious faith and obligations safely this holy month.”

In the upcoming month, Boost will be hosting Instagram Live sessions every Sunday until 2 May together with celebrity influencers Daphne Iking and Harris Annuar. They will feature local merchants to support, their own Ramadan and Raya preparations as well as the chance for Boost users to earn more prizes and Boost Coins.

Contactless Zakat Fitrah

Users can pay for their Zakat Fitrah by tapping on the ‘Zakat’ tile on the homepage or under the ‘Do More’ tab in the ‘Donation’ section. Users can easily add a zakat account providing their name, IC and mobile number. Information on ‘Harga Beras’ is also readily available in-app. Upon successful payment, users will receive a receipt via e-mail which can be used for individual tax rebate purposes. In accordance with Islamic law, zakat payments through e-wallets are valid without ‘Lafaz Akad’.

In-app Zakat Harta payments are also available for LZS, PPZ-MAIWP, and MUIS throughout the year. For LZNK, MUIP and PBMaINS, it will soon be available in May.

#DoGoodWithBoost

With the holy month being a period of giving back to the community, Boost is continuing its Ramadan tradition with its e-donation initiative for Android users to #DoGoodwithBoost. The in-app ‘Donation’ feature will allow users to easily donate to charities and causes close to their heart directly with a few taps on the screen. These little acts of kindness will go a long way to support communities in need, especially those who have been hard hit by more than a year of the pandemic.

Every week from 16 April to 14 May, Boost will feature charitable organisations across different categories to raise awareness to their causes and social missions. Categories include community and society welfare, health and disability, children, education and environmental causes.
