Boost unveils COVID-19 initiatives to protect and help Malaysians forge through the recent wave of the pandemic

Kuala Lumpur, 1 December 2020 – As part of the on-going efforts to ensure Malaysians are supported in the battle against the pandemic, homegrown e-wallet Boost rolled out two COVID-19 initiatives. The first is focusing on the community with the new in-app booking of COVID-19 Home Swab Test where users can book for COVID-19 test in the comfort of their homes. The second is leading and coordinating a nationwide aid collection through the re-introduction of ‘Tabung COVID-19 by Boost’. This time, the fund intends to help ease the burden of those in Sabah who are directly and indirectly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak.

During the earlier MCO period, Boost launched Tabung COVID-19 by Boost and managed to collect RM1,000,000 in donations for the Ministry of Health as well as the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and related NGOs.

Convenience of COVID-19 test at home

The COVID-19 Home Swab Test feature enables users to seamlessly book a COVID-19 test appointment directly from the Boost app and get tested at the comfort of their homes.  Certified medical personnel will be present to do the testing. The COVID-19 test offered is a RT-PCR test, which is regarded as the gold standard for COVID-19 testing and is the most sensitive testing modality available in the market.

Users can choose from three packages – Gold, Platinum and Diamond – from as low as RM199. For those that need test results urgently, the Diamond package offers test results turnaround time within 12 hours. This home swab test is part of the Program Saringan Prihatin (PSP) PERKESO which makes it eligible for a RM150 subsidy claimable by all PERKESO contributors – both foreigners and locals. Application for the subsidy must be done by employers via the PSP PERKESO web portal after performing the test.

Mohd Khairil Abdullah, CEO of Boost said, “While the CMCO is in place, people are still working and most economic sectors are still operating. With this, we recognize that people are increasingly taking pre-cautionary measures to ensure they remain healthy, staying safe and protected during this crucial period. This led us to introducing the COVID-19 home swab test in-app booking feature.”

Users can book for a COVID-19 Home Swab Test in these simple steps:

  1. Click on the ‘COVID-19 Home Swab Test’ tile under ‘What’s New’ section on the homepage
  2. Enter postcode to check for coverage area
  3. Enter personal details and select desired package
  4. Partner medical laboratories will be in touch with user within 3 hours for an appointment submission made between 9AM-9PM, and the next day for those made after 9PM to confirm the preferred scheduled date and time

The tests are conducted by participating medical laboratories certified and accredited by the Ministry of Health. Currently only available in Klang Valley, the packages are valid for a period of 30 days from the date of its purchase. Users also need to declare they do not have a history of being tested positive for COVID-19 nor been in close contact with a known positive case over the past 21 days upon date of package purchase.

Easing the burden of the Sabah community

‘Tabung COVID-19 by Boost’ was first introduced back in March during the first Movement Control Order (MCO). Malaysians came together during a time of crisis and showed their compassion through a substantial donation totaling RM1,000,000 collected via Boost. The success of the first round encouraged Boost to re-introduce this initiative in our battle against the third wave of the pandemic. While Boost is concerned with the consistently high new cases reported daily in Sabah and intend to help the state fund its efforts to manage the situation, the homegrown e-wallet is also ready to work with other state health departments to tackle the virus nationwide.

This initiative is part of the #BoostGotYou campaign ‘Stay at Home’ edition launched last month under the ‘Protect’ pillar. The contributions will bring much needed aid to Sabah’s healthcare ecosystem, with practical and important healthcare supplies including ambulance-patient transfer hydraulic stretcher for hospitals and medical frontliners.

Expressing her gratitude, Sabah Health Director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said: “We appreciate and are pleased by the timely contribution from Boost through the creative use of their e-wallet platform. It is an innovative way that allows Malaysians to support our frontliners in Sabah who are working tirelessly in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. As we aim to flatten the curve again, we strongly urge the public to continue avoiding the 3Cs (crowded places, confined spaces & closed conversation) and practice the 3Ws (wash hands with soap regularly, wear masks & heed warning).”

Malaysians who want to contribute and help fight the pandemic can donate through ‘Tabung COVID-19 by Boost’ until 31 December 2020 by tapping on the ‘Tabung COVID-19’ tile on the Boost App homepage.

“The number of daily new COVID-19 cases in Sabah has remained high for weeks. Every single day the outbreak persists, it poses new challenges for everyone’s lives and livelihoods. The battle is far from over and we are in this together with all Malaysians for as long as COVID-19 remains a threat. With a robust e-wallet ecosystem, it offers meaningful and value-added solutions where everyone can do their part in offering support and aid to communities who really need them. We urge for your help through this fund for their endless efforts to keeping us safe and giving the best care to our communities and patients who are affected by COVID-19. We truly believe little gestures make a big difference,” Khairil added.

Under the #BoostGotYou campaign ‘Stay at Home’ edition, Boost has created innovative services and solutions for Malaysians to carry out necessary tasks with contactless convenience such as paying bills, prepaid top-ups to stay connected with loved ones, online shopping for groceries or supporting local merchants, staying entertained with games and streaming content, protection through COVID-19 insurance coverage and paying for fuel with Setel directly from the Boost app.
