While healthcare professionals do their best to combat the COVID-19 outbreak, let us all play our role to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Kuala Lumpur, 11 March 2020 – Over the past week, the number of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia has increased by fourfold with the second wave of cases since late last month and a total number of 129 confirmed cases as of yesterday. The Ministry of Health (MOH) has been giving their all to combat the outbreak while giving us regular updates on their progress so that we can have a peace of mind during this period.

Homegrown e-wallet Boost reminds that we can be proactive and do our part to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread with these five simple steps.

  1. Practice good hygiene habits!

This is always important, especially now. Wash your hands for 20 seconds regularly with soap and water. No, you don’t need antibacterial soap, regular soap will do. If you can’t access soap and water, use a hand sanitiser solution instead.

  1. No touching your MEN

Coronavirus begins with the Mouth, Eyes and Nose (MEN). The best would be to avoid touching your face altogether because the more you touch your face, the higher your risk of exposure.

  1. Clean your phone

When was the last time you cleaned your phone? Our phone screens may be the surface we touch the most. Other similar coronaviruses can live on your phone surface for up to four days! You could be following the 20-second hand-washing rule but if you touch your phone again, you may have just come into contact again. So, be sure to clean your phone regularly.

  1. Don’t hoard hygiene products!

Remain calm and only purchase products that you need. If everyone starts hoarding hand sanitisers, face masks and toilet paper because they think these products will run out, they eventually will.

  1. Use e-wallets

Cash is passed from one person to the next. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), just like how any other surface people come in contact with, bank notes can carry bacteria or viruses. Go cashless and use contactless payment methods such as e-wallets. This is a good time to use e-wallets like Boost as it can help reduce contact with bank notes that have been circulated everywhere, minimize risk of contracting COVID-19 and at the same time offer convenience for daily transactions as well as rewards. Boost is also working with its insurance partners to provide COVID-19 protection. Enrollment for this life insurance plan is free and comes with medical treatment coverage of up to RM5,000 once positively diagnosed.
